Question about

Can you add an internal hard drive to the Xbox 4GB?

It's just something I've always wondered about. I know an external drive can be attached, but I'd rather keep everything internal if at all possible.

Ever since the Kinect system came out, I am becoming more and more interested in it.

Yes you can add a hdd. Either the one M$ sells or you can buy a hdd from an older model Xbox 360, remove it form the caddy and install it into a hdd caddy designed to fit in the new slim. The caddy costs around 5 bucks on eBay.
