Can the Airport Extreme be used with an ADSL 2+ modem?

I recently got a new broadband connection and the service provider could not provide a wireless router so I am planning to get one myself. The question is whether the Apple Airport Extreme can be used with an ADSL 2+ modem or do these modems require a different router. Might sound stupid but I just wanna be sure about this.

Your ADSL modem will provide an ethernet output which would plug into your Airport Extreme router. You can also get a combined modem/router as well.
