Question about
Can I simply open the case and install an internal drive to take advantage of the FireWire port?
I have found that it is a lot cheaper to purchase an internal Hard Drive with 1TB+ than to buy a another external drive with FireWire 400. I prefer the stability of the FireWire 400 over USB 2.0 when recording HD TV through my computer. So I want to use the FireWire interface of this hard drive case.

I do this all the time.
Only thing to check for is if the enclosure supports the size of the new drive (GB,TB).
Other than that it shouldn't be a problem.
