The Microsoft Surface should run anything compatible with windows 8. So the software usage experience should be similar to that of windows 7. Some things to consider though are the lack of specs for the surfaces... we still don't know anything about pricing, amount of RAM, or battery life. You may find that it is not powerful enough hardware wise. If you're looking for a similar solution now, I would look into the Asus Zenbook or another Ultrabook form factor notebook and getting something relatively cheap in the android tablet family if you wanted that tablet experience. Plus there are already so many great apps in the android family and it's hard to tell what will be available on a Microsoft tablet for application/games because its a new software market for app developers
