It sure can, but you're going to have to Jailbreak your Apple TV.

Similar to what is above, but this tutorial that I used required me to have an always-on PC with a PlayOn subscription running on it (www.playon.tv). And... jailbreak the ATV2, as well. This guy goes through a screencast of it, but I can recall having a little bit of difficulty getting my ATV2 into DFU mode, but I did eventually get it there. A few people at this forum had a few tips for trying to get the device into DFU mode: forum.firecore.com/topic/3798.
