It would be easier for me to just buy something like a Drobo. But there are many options out there and I'm fairly new to this. I have a few things I'm looking for.
1. I would like for it to be a low power computer. I was looking into this processor (if I go the building it myself route):
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819...
The reviews for it on newegg are good for use as a NAS. Anything else I should look at?
2. It NEEDS to be VERY QUIET! It's going to be in my living room and on all the time. Even when I watch TV! My desktop is also in my living room and it's very loud. But it's also 6 years old. Can anyone vouch for their NAS/RAID as very quiet?
3. I would like for it to have a Linux OS. Just because I don't want to pay extra for an OS. So, if a prebuilt option ships with Windows, that's fine.
4. I was thinking about doing a RAID 0 just because it's the easiest for me to understand. If a drive breaks, I just replace it, right? Should I look at another RAID configuration?
5. Anything else I should keep in mind?! Like I said before, I'm not 100% sure I know what I'm doing/talking about!
Thanks for any help!
Question about
Can anyone recommend a NAS/RAID server? I was thinking about building one myself. Any suggestions?
