I heard about WakeMate, but it's sold out (and had it's good share of issues). Same thing with Jawbone's UP.
I was wondering if there were any other options I might be able to consider?
Basically looking for a "wearable" vibrating alarm to wake me up without a blaring alarm sound.
Question about
Can anybody recommend a "wearable" vibrating alarm?
This may not be the complete answer you want, but this is a copy from an existing discussion concerning the Jawbone Up
Aliph Jawbone is a very fast moving, cutting edge tech company. They release new products while their current products are arguably best on the market and they don't drop their price. (Sound familiar, think of a fruit named company). Where they fail is the third party market as it's easy to get their devices for much cheaper months after release, but I digress.
Aliph saw an opportunity with Fitbit and made a similar device. I have no experience with it, but I've heard it has catastrophic problems. They will fix these problems, but more importantly they've realized the market will pay for health conscious devices.
Bottom line: Don't buy an Up.
Aliph understands that people don't want something extra like a bracelet, pedometer, etc. to track their fitness activity. Apple and Nike have had success with the sensors in shoes, though that device is used much differently than the Up. Aliph is also are the only company I'm aware of that makes sleek bluetooth ear pieces that are considered "fashionable" and they've marketed these better than anyone else.
They are no doubt in process of designing a watch that has the capabilities of the Up, but is not just another thing to wear on your person. Maybe the watch has bluetooth capability to sync with your smartphone and let you read text messages. Maybe it will allow you to answer a call and talk to your watch James Bond style. Or maybe it's a fitness device that disguises itself as a classy analog watch, trying to imitate Citizen, Fossil, etc on looks, but with nerdy features.
It's possible that Apple will beat them to the punch with a new iPod Nano that has these same capabilities. I doubt it, because Apple would need to put a music playing capability in the device, whereas that's not what a Up style wristwatch is all about.
Being nerdy is getting better every year, with new fitness devices coming out, it's likely that we will outlive and outperform luddites as time progresses.
