Browser Speed

I just acquired an n810, which supposedly has wireless g, and find the browser to be quite slow in surfing the web on my home wireless n network. Is there an adjustment I should make? Thanks.

I don't think there's much you can do, to be honest. From my experience the issue isn't your connection speed, it's the N810's sluggish processor.

I agree with peter, it's probably not a networking issue. My n800 will pretty much fall over if there is a flash add on a website it's trying to render. I think there is an app that downloads a blacklist of advertising servers and throws them into the hosts file. I can't recall the name, but it may be worth having a look for it at mameo.org. If it's slowing down on complex pages (eg google docs) there is not much can be done.

:(

sorry.

You can't expect to benefit from the wireless n network if your device is wireless g or b. Try buying a wireless n usb adaptor for your n810 to match it with the wireless n router.

Even with adblocking, it's going to be slow. Disable the flash add-on for staters, but it'll always be slow.

Thanks to all who answered my query on browser speed. Three more questions:

1) I need to install a program on the n810 which is compatible with MS Office (at least Word and PowerPoint) but which is suitable for the slow processor. Any suggestions?

2) How does one install an application -- download from the Internet directly to the n810, or via a connected PC? If the latter how do I do it? I downloaded OpenOffice from the Internet to the n810 but it would not open.

3) I have a gmail email account and set this up on the n810, including a setting that the n810 retrieve the last 100 messages. Instead, I have received the oldest 100 messages on my gmail account. How do I change this?

Thanks very much.

1) I've installed Abiword for Word documents
2) Neither... you have to use the built in app manager. You can enable new repositories though. You definitely can't install OpenOffice on it nor can you install any Windows application unless it's specifically available in an N810 software repository.
