Question about
Black Screen
Last night, my computer was working ok. Then this morning when I turned it on, the computer booted, but there was nothing on the screen. I tried to reinstall tiger, but the computer screen was still blank. I tried all the solutions on apple's support page, but none of the work. My warranty already expired.
Anybody know how to fix this? Any idea? besides going to the apple store?

sounds like the same troubles i've had recently...
you can hope it's the well known nvidia issue...you'll get the warranty extended to 3 years for this specific failure...best would be to head off to an apple store and let them check, it's an easy and fast procedure!

Sounds like the bad nvidia issue. You'll need to go to the Apple Store and have them send it in or send it in yourself. No way of replacing the video card on your own. You'll get a replacement for free but you'll be without a laptop for a while.

Yeah it was the nvidia chip problem. I took it to the Apple Store, no questions asked they replaced it free of cost! Although the actually price of the board is $1,250. They actually did it within 12 hours which was good. Except I tried to fix it, so I was without a computer for 2 weeks.

Did they replace the board or did they just give you a new laptop?
I'm curious because I am pretty sure I will run into these issues down the road with how hard I work the nvidia chip on a daily basis for school and work.

They replaced the board. If the model and computer matches, they will replace it for you free of cost. The problem is that only give you 90 day warrenty after that. Which means if the nvidia chip breaks again, then you will have to pay a high price of $1,385. At that point you should probably get a new laptop lol. Oh, if you are worried or you depend on your laptop for work and home, go setup a appointment with the genius bar, and have them to run a video test on your laptop. Supposedly, it will detect problems so....as usual Apple has one of the best customer service.
If you're wondering, I have the Nvidia GeForce 8600M.
