Some of the android enthusiast websites do weekly or monthly write ups on editors apps of the week/month. Android Central does a weekly one and it is published every sunday. I know Gizmodo has also done some monthly and yearly round up of apps. AppBrain, www.appbrain.com/ ,is also a great repository for finding apps as they break them out into different categories such as Hot Apps, Hot Apps for the Week, etc.

Don't forget to check out the amazon app store as well. They give away a paid app for free every day, and from time to time you can get some pretty good stuff. amzn.to/orRhFX

I've found a ton of good apps on androidpolice.com, appbrain.com and the "What's New" section of the Android Market.

Check out a new release from @yahoo. It's not gonna help with your battery life, but you'll be able to discover some new apps & yes, they also have an app.
apps.search.yahoo.com/?&pf=android
Also- for the value search, check @amazon every day for a free Android app (one that costs money every other day).

You can also try XDA. Not curated, but you can see what's new/popular (new/active threads, respectively)
