Question about
Battery will not charge
Hi, I went on vacation for 2 weeks, and when I came back, I could not charge the battery for my NC10. The netbook works fine when plugged into the mains, but no matter how long I leave the battery to charge, as soon as I attempt to use it, I get the critical battery level message. Anyone else's battery just died like that?
Exactly the same happened to me recently. Had the NC10 for around 6 months then all of a sudden the battery would not work - which is a massive issue because the battery is one of the key benefits of the netbook. It isn't clear whether the NC10 can't use a charged battery, won't charge a battery, or whether there is a fault with the battery. Will be trying with a friend's laptop tomorow to try and isolate further - will post further info.

That's interesting, I've had mine a similar length of time. When it worked, the battery life was excellent!

I recently had a similar issue on my Thinkpad. The battery was working fine, then one day when I pulled the plug out of the wall, my screen went black instead of running off the battery as it usually does.
When I plugged it back in, I had to power back up. From that point on, the battery no longer would provide electricity nor would it take a charge.
The battery indicator in my task bar (running WinXP) even stated that the battery had some sort of irreparable damage and that it needed to be replaced when I hovered my mouse over it. I got a new battery and all is fine again so it would appear that they can just suddenly give up the ghost and die.

Had a chance to try a friend's battery and can confirm the following:
- a battery from another machine charges
- a battery from another machine can power the laptop
Hot-swapped the battery and the laptop indicated a charge with my friends battery, but did not charge my battery.
Going to try the battery calibration described here www.samsung.com/us/support/popup/howToGuidePopup.d... but if that doesn't work will be testing how Samsung advise I resolve the issue.

Unfortunately Li-Ion batteries can suddenly fail like that.
The performance of the battery in my NC10 has been slowly decreasing. I've had it for about 9 months and the performance is about 80% of what it was brand new. I have been really taking care of the battery too! I've done several of the battery calibration option that is in the BIOS. I never leave the computer on the charger either.
But, I have had many laptops and the batteries have always either failed or seriously degraded within the first year. IMHO this is a huge issue that is never addressed in notebook reviews. Replacement batteries are not cheap!
