Battery life problems after exchange

Hi,
this powerbook g4 12" was bought in 2003/04 and when i got my hands on it (from family) the original battery life was drastically diminished and would last approximately 20 minutes while showing 100% charge, then it would go into automatic sleep. This eventually got worse and forced me to purchase a replacement battery. Long story short, the battery worked for about 2 months then exactly the same thing happened. Now the device only works while plugged in and permanently shows "Calculating..." with a 0% charge. I've been told to replace the power management unit inside the machine. Is it worth it in such an old machine?
Thank you in advance.

Oh, good to hear. I have also been thinking about replacing my old (original) battery with a new one as I can currently use it only while plugged.

Only concern is that putting 100 + Euro into a new battery would be OK only if I can use it then for at least another couple of years (for browsing the thing does still a pretty good job).

I wonder if the battery warranty would cover your problem? Did you check with apple?

My opinion for what it's worth, save the money and apply it towards a new machine.
I still use mine everyday. It plugged in and permanently sits between the back of the sofa and the wall.
Always an arm away.

I had a warranty replacement battery and the life has not been as good as the original.
Wish I would not have done the battery swap.

I too have had a litany of issues with the battery in our 12". I have bought new ones that last less than a year. I have even bought second hand ones to save money. net net, it's not worth it.

I am with Noshamer, don't invest further as it's a money pit. if it works plugged in, so be it.
