AT&T's Throttling Policy

What do Iphone 4 and 4s users think about AT&T throttling high-use unlimited data plan customers? If you haven't heard, skim the linked article. The video shows exactly how the throttling works. It seems a bit ridiculous to choke people's data plans like that. I'd sure hope AT&T has the infrastructure to support high data use either way.

You should not advertise anything as unlimited if people are not allowed to use it without limits. They are just slowing down innovation. In a few years, the amount of data the 5% now use will be the amount the majority use. AT&T need to invest in their network infrastructure rather than stopping people from using the data they pay for.

I, for one, don't really care. I happen to think it's the fault of the throttled 5% as the reason we don't have unlimited data anymore anyway. You can't give anything as unlimited without a few people abusing the privilege. But then again, I'm thoughtful in how I use my bandwidth.

This in no way should be construed as an endorsement of AT&T or its network management policies. I can not stand them (and frankly, who could).

I had been with AT&T since my first cell phone, a Startac, in 1996. I remained a fiercely loyal customer until this very recent episode. I was on the grandfathered plan for unlimited data use. I don't have Internet access in my house and no access to Wi-Fi so I pretty much did everything on my iPhone. For those of you who don't know what throttling will do I can tell you a call greatly reduces your speed or ability to do anything online. AT&T was completely unresponsive to any of my comments so I switched to Sprint. I'm completely baffled by AT&T's lack of loyalty to me. PS I had Siri type this for me on my new Sprint iPhone.
