Question about
ellistyle

Are you using this as an HTPC? What software do you use (Boxee? Plex?, et al.)? Does it work well for you?

I am trying to decide between the upcoming boxee box, something similar to that or a mac mini. Please opine.

Best bet is to hit up the forums of the respective software suites. I've looked at Plex videos on Youtube and the interface looks pretty slick. If Plex leverages the nvidia chip for hardware acceleration it should pretty easily handle high-res/hd videos.

Been using Plex on my 2.0Ghz Mac mini core 2 duo for a few years. Perfectly fine and quiet. The new 2010 mm with hdmi is even better suited (I have to use a dvi-to-hdmi adapter and optical audio cable to do the same). Plus you can run both Boxee and XBMC as well, all 3 have their particular strengths. Plugins are better on Boxee for YouTube, Autotune the News, etc. All free downloads.
