Question about

Are there any good, preferably free, gchat apps for the iPad with push notifications?

If not native for iPad, a blown-up iPhone version would work as well.

I've been spoiled by Google making official apps for Android and iOS is severely lacking on this.

UPDATE: So I installed both IM+ (free version) and IMO, both get the job done very well. I think that IM+ looks nicer, but IMO doesn't have a banner ad on the free version -- not sure if there's a paid version. I think I'm going to be sticking with IM+ because of the prettiness factor, yes I'm shallow, and I can live with the small ad.

IM+ is what you're looking for. It handles most other chat services too.

I use IM+ Pro, but it isn't free. Not sure what the difference is though between the free one and the paid one. Looking at the page for each I can't tell.

I'll have to agree with everyone else, IM+ is pretty good, although I don't have the Pro version and have to deal with a few annoying ads.

I have to agree with the above posts, IM+ is pretty good, even the free version and it supports a lot more than gchat.

Tips for giving the best answers

Sometimes it's just little details that separates a great and not so great answer! Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:

1
Be complete and thorough. Don't skimp on the details!
2
Try not to answer with a question. Because that's not really an answer, right?
3
A little research goes a long way. Back up your claims and assumptions!
4
Try to be patient, tech questions can be complicated.

You are awesome for both reading this and answering questions.
