Apple Remote no longer works with 3rd Party apps in Snow Leopard

"Note: The Apple Remote control is not fully compatible with Desktop on OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)."
The problem affects many 3rd Party apps including Hulu Desktop, Plex, VLC player. It also affects Apple apps such as Logic.
There's a whole Apple Support forum dedicated to this topic:

In 10.5 Leopard, the app that was in the foreground (full screen) would receive the Apple Remote commands.
This has changed in 10.6 Snow Leopard, the Apple Remote commands now bypass the app in the foreground (even if it's full screen), and the remote commands automatically get sent to iTunes. If iTunes is closed, the Apple Remote will automatically launch iTunes and play the first track.
The makers of Remote Buddy are offering a free fix called Candelair, although I have not tried this yet:

And I can say that Candelair is now working for me with Plex. It seems to be a good workaround until Apple fixes this bug (hopefully in 10.6.2).
