Apple iPad - Syncing issues with iTunes

I have iTunes 9.1, but whenever I've plugged the iPad into my computer, I keep getting an "unknown error" when it tres to sync.

"The iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-50)."

Well, that's fantastic.

EDIT: Some additional relevant information - I'm running Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.2, haven't upgraded to 10.6.3 yet) on a 15" unibody MacBook Pro and connecting the iPad through a USB hub.

Okay, well for one it would help to know your operating system. I have windows, so I'm going to try and help you that way. In windows, iTunes is actually not what syncs Apple devices to your PC. There is a separate application called "Apple Mobile Device Driver" that launches when windows detects a connected Mobile Apple device; it runs two programs called "Apple Mobile Sync" and "Apple Mobile Backup". So my first thing to do would be to check your processes via task manager, connect the device, and see what happens to "AppMobSync". You can try reinstalling iTunes also, for that install also contains the Apple Mobile Device Driver. From there on out, it could be many things... It could be the iPad itself; a possible factory defect that Apple either doesn't know about, or hasn't confirmed yet. So more info please... :)
