I did use one for a bit and found it didn't work for me. I switched to a standing desk about a year ago and have been very happy. Took about a week to adjust, but now it's great.

Dwight probably doesn't recommend it anymore. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut-_M1Tib2s

I tried one a few years back but it was too small for me. I would go to a gym or sporting goods store to try them out first. At your height you will probably need a large exercise ball to give you the support you need and to sit you at an adequate level.

I bought into Leo Laporte's Kool-Aid and tried this out, but it did not help my back pain, and I found it was causing my hips to ache. After a few weeks, I gave up and rigged up a rudimentary standing solution. My CDW-G rep scored me a free Ergotron unit so I could try to sell them to others here on campus, and it is pretty sweet. It is easy to change up between sitting and standing throughout the day, which is much better on my back.

I used to use one at a prior office and it worked well for an hour at a time. I liked being able to change up my position and work on my core.

A lot of office chairs are terrible for the lower back/hips so having access to an exercise ball for sitting and just stretching, etc, can be a great way to keep the ergo aches under control.

I'd really like to get a standing desk one of these days.

Leo LaPorte (of This Week in Tech) uses one and seems to love it. You could probably shoot him an email and ask him why he decided on the exercise ball and what brands he would recommend.

I tried one for about 10 minutes - was not a big fan. Decided to go with a very ergonomic desk chair instead.

I tried it, and while I may be biased to the fact that I would pretty much reject any chair I can't convincingly steeple my fingers while smiling maniacally and then stroke a cat in, I just found it ridiculous from the outset despite being aware of how it is supposed to work.

I don't buy into the hipster-popular stand up desks either, that just fatigues you in a different way - but it does prompt those who might otherwise spend too long sitting around that they have to go and do something else simply because they can't stand up anymore.

My back health has got noticeably worse even on the same chairs now that my ass spends a lot more time on them, and *that* is really the key apart from a fundamentally comfortable chair - do something else on a regular basis. Whether a stand-up desk acts as a mental prod to that better is a personal thing, but clearly many people like the idea. I have a few Ergotron Workfit arms I (or anyone else) never use.

And by comfortable chair, I don't mean the Aerons favoured of the design sheeple. I never fully understood why anyone would consider that ergonomic - too many people think with their eyes.

I see leo all the time on his I did see his pop that is vary funny but man I bet it kills the back when you hit the floor. Stand up desks look like they rock but the cost is crazy I see them for like $300 to $800 Id love one and maybe I could work out a CAD and have a friend make one.
What stand up desk are you guys using? I'm on a laptop now but getting a iMac tomorrow and I guess Ill need a desk so I am in the market.

It hurt my pride more than landing on the floor did. I used to use one till I had the same accident Leo Laport had with his. Fortunately for me it was not filmed. J
I admit my went because I was being an idiot and bouncing around like Q-Bert for normal use I don’t that’s going to be an issue for most people.
