Question about
Anyone know how to block p2p traffic?
My roommate keeps torrenting on the network that I pay for. I don't want to get in trouble...
You could try this: open a free account on opendns.org, go to the settings for your IP address, and then set web content filtering to block P2P/file sharing. Change your DHCP settings to hand out the two OpenDNS servers as the DNS server addresses, and, as long as he doesn't figure out to set his own custom DNS settings for his connection, it should block most, if not all of it.
It's similar to this article about blocking adult content, but you block P2P/file sharing instead. You do have the option to white list domains if there are some legit ones that you use yourself.

Stop being a kill joy. Leave you roommate alone. Now, if you were trying to stream a netflix movie or play a game online and it interferes, then tell him to pause the download til you're done. Otherwise get off your roommate's back. If you are within a college server (dorm/library internet) you have reason to be worry, otherwise, you'll never get caught. This is not worth worrying about.
