Question about
Anyone know a good resource for teaching an unfamiliar user the basics of iOS?
You can find some tips here www.apple.com/iphone/tips/ The best place to go (if you are near an Apple store) is to check out www.apple.com/retail/ and check out the workshops on iPads and iPhones. They give great overviews for someone new to the device.

Apple used to have some good videos on their site back when the original iPhone was released. Not sure if they're still around
