Question about
Anyone have thoughts on using a computer monitor vs an actual tv for gaming and movies?
I'm in the market for a new display to use mainly with my PS3, for games and video, but nothing other than that really. I want something relatively small, maybe between 22-28", and at least 720p. It wouldn't have to be amazing on video quality or performance, just decent. My first instinct was to look at tv's in that range, but there are a lot of computer monitors that seem to fit the bill as well, and for less money. Would I get more out of buying one or the other, or are there any serious trade-offs that I'd make?

I occasionally use my monitor as a screen for console gaming. It's a 24", so it's a good size. I don't really see much issue with it other than slower refresh rates than I'd like, but works well enough. I have the Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP

It has all the ports you'd need, except mini-HDMI and mini-DVI, but I've only seen that used used in either netbooks or Apple products, but you can just use any of the other ports or buy an additional dongle for that.
The trade-offs are 1. you would need a separate cable for the audio or speaker system and 2. that you don't have a remote to shut off the monitor and it's a slight annoyance to switch from one display setting to another, since you can only cycle in one direction, but like I said, slight annoyance.
edit: Forgot the number 2

Games won't be affected, but movie performance is likely to be abysmal due to the horrible black-level performance of most computer monitor models (unless you get an LED-backlit model).

I've used T240HD for a while. It's a great monitor, although the brightness in certain situations is not always good. Specially when the scene/level of the game is dark. An example, when you play a game like Alien vs predator you cannot distinguish between the floor and the walls as you do in a TV or in other monitors (dell). If you're gonna use it in a close area the T240HD could be an option

I found the ViewSonic VX2433wm gdgt.com/viewsonic/vx2433wm/ on sale. I use the monitor mainly for computer gaming, but I also used it for my PS3 and Xbox 360 when I didn't have my TV. I was using a headset, so I can't really comment about the speakers, though. I chose this monitor because of its response time.
One odd thing I noticed is that I could only adjust the display settings when using the DVI connection. When I used the HDMI port, all the settings were disabled. (I was trying to fine-tune the black levels and things like that when I was watching a DVD on the computer.)
I think you'd be fine with a monitor. Hope it works out for you.

I have Samsung T260HD & Dell U2410.
Both monitors are good for PS3. But some differece in Panel.
(I can't explain this. Because English is not my first language and I'm not good at English... sorry.)
U2410 is better than T260HD, But U2410 is expensive.
So, My recommendation is if you have enough money buy U2410.
If you have not engough money, but T240HD (I think, T260HD is too big screen size)
