Anyone else more excited about the Nexus Prime than the iPhone 4S?

Not to take away from anyone's enthusiasm for the new iPhone 4S -- I think it's going to be massively successful -- but personally I'm more curious to see how the Nexus Prime shapes up and I'm just generally excited about the release of some larger screen, 720p-resolution phones.

Yes, absolutely. I'm also ready and willing to accept whatever battery hit it takes to get LTE speeds.

Actually, I only remembered it was the launch of the new iPhone when I came here to post a review of something else. Personally I'm more interested in the launch of the Nokia WP7 handset than anything else right now. I'm sure on a purely spec basis it won't be anything hugely surprising but nevertheless, it's what I have on my 'need to look at' shortlist.

Not sure why the Nexus Prime is more exciting than the 20 other Android phones that will be released in the next few months.

I'm absolutely more excited about the Nexus Prime. I have a Google Alert set up to email me every single time a new story hits!

Frankly, I don't see how the Nexus Prime could be a less impressive release. The iPhone 4S is a great handset to be sure, but in everyone's mind it's just a spec bump of the iPhone 4. The Nexus Prime, assuming it's not a Galaxy S II in disguise, is going to be something we haven't seen yet for Android.

I don't know if the Prime will be a more impressive phone than the 4S, but yes, it's a more exciting release.

Nope. Assistant could be revolutionary. Emphasis on could because Apple pretty much bet the success of iPhone 4S on a camera upgrade, top dog processor and the new Siri software. Explaining the upgrade to someone who doesn't care about phone specs would simply involve telling them that it's faster and got this assistant thing. (Most people on this site care about phone specs, but that's not my point.)

Android phones can be high quality but when you buy one you know there's going to be another one in six months or less with better hardware and it's tough to know when you will get the new software. Nexus devices seem to be the cream of the Android crop, but they still don't have the ability to create a system like iDevices can. The mirroring isn't important to most people, but iCloud and iTunes match are big points to the masses.

After seeing the teaser image today, I am very excited. The proportions make it look super slim. I might have to sell my Galaxy Tab in preparation for purchase. I've been pretty satisfied with the Nexus S (especially speed-wise) so I am stoked for the new device. Plus, Ice Cream Sandwich can't hurt.

As a long time (day 0) iPhone user, I felt extremely underwhelmed by today's announcements. I was really looking forward to a new design in the iPhone 5, specifically a larger screen and one that was 16:9 ratio. Given what was announced adds up to a mere bump in specs in the grand scheme of things, I am seriously considering switching it up to an Android device. Honestly the only thing truly holding me back is my significant investment in the iOS platform in the form of Apps. I have until Friday to figure it out I guess.

I'm extremely interested in the Nexus Prime, though only under one or two use cases. If a GSM model that supported T-Mobile's HSPA+/AWS network was available, I'd jump all over it. Especially now that T-Mobile has $30/month prepaid, 5 GB data/unlimited text accounts. I may also consider the Droid Prime if I can get it without a contract, then I could use Verizon's new $50/month prepaid unlimited plan. I'm tired of being on the endless contract and renewal cycle.

I was more excited about the Nexus Prime, and it made me laugh when the iPhone hype imploded. Sure, the 4S has some improvements, but haven't we seen the majority of these from Android already? 8 megapixel camera? Check. Faster processor? Been done already. More RAM? Sure. World phone? Ditto. The one compelling piece that I admit is cool is the Siri personal assistant feature. It's what Google Voice should strive to be one day. In any case, given that the iPhone 5 didn't happen, will people still buy the 4S? With the Apple fanbase, or should I say, the fanboys and girls out there, it'll still sell anyways.

My two worries about the Nexus Prime are the size (if the 4.6+" inch screen is true), and hearing only Verizon carrying it. If that's the case, I may be holding to my Nexus One a bit longer until a suitable Android phone replaces it.

The 4S looks like a nice bit of hardware but to be honest, the majority of the new features I'm excited about are coming with iOS5. I currently have an iPhone 4 so I'm looking forward to grabbing the update next week and I think I'll see how I go at first with the new OS first.

As for Nexus Prime, I'm excited about seeing what it has to offer, but my biggest concerns are as follows: 1 ) the rumoured screen size is something like 4.5", which for me is too big. Something around the 4-4.2" would be ideal, but 4.5 makes the device too hefty for my pockets. 2 ) When are they going to announce it and when will it be released? If there's still no news by the end of October, it's getting a little late for me and I might make the decision to get the 4S.

Way, way more excited for the Galaxy Nexus, which I think we should continue to call the "Nexus Prime". Just wish I could afford it. Still happy with my Thunderbolt, though, which I also find way more exciting than the iPhone 4S.

iPhone 4S. I find it really hard to get excited about HD-anything resolution on a screen that is 1/10th the size of the screens HD was actually designed for.

I am kind of curious to see how the Nexus Prime turns out, but I find myself hard pressed to get excited about it at all. No matter how impressive ice cream sandwich may turn out to be I would find it extremely difficult to buy any Android phone when the ecosystem behind it continues to be subpar. I would be a lot more interested in seeing what comes out of Nokia and WP7 than another Android phone.

I am seriously excited about the Nexus Prime. I've never been a big fan of the iPhone, but Android phones really do it for me. I know the Nexus phones have always been a harbinger of what's to come for future Android devices and I can't wait to see what new innovations have yet to be revealed!

100% more excited about the Nexus Prime announcement. We are pretty sure that we will learn all about the new ICS version of the Android OS... whereas the Apple announcement offered very little new information regarding the device and their OS. I am also excited because the Nexus Prime is rumored to show up on Verizon Wireless, and it is about time we get a Nexus device... I would even be happy with a Droid Prime.

Not really, I don't need to carry a bigger device in my pocket. IMHO 4" is the perfect size of real estate and portability. Really cannot understand how people tote these HUGE 'phone's around.

720p meh, just means worse battery life...

I'm on board with most here. I'm a 3GS user and thought "I can't believe I waited for this," when I read the 4S specs. I really wanted a bigger screen, and something more than an "assistant" I probably won't use and a better camera. So, wait for this and Mango on Nokia hardware and then decide.

I'm much more interested in the release of the Nexus Prime, however the rumors of it being a Verizon phone worry me. I'm hoping they have a simultaneous release of both an LTE and a HSPA+ phone supporting the AT&T frequencies.

Yes; I think that the Nexus Prime is probably going to be a little more interesting in terms of pushing the envelope for new technology and software.

That being said, given that the Galaxy S II has been out a while, and that's kind of the rumored foundation for the Nexus Prime, I'm not expecting the Nexus Prime to be mindblowing - much of the appeal could just be the virgin implementation of Ice Cream Sandwich.

I am much more excited about the nexus Prime, apple sort of just stepped up to where android has been. The camera on the iPhone 4S is amazing just like all the others and the new voice dictation looks really good and especially how it ties into all the other apps as well as wolfram alpha and Wikipedia. Also having 1 phone that works on all carriers is amazing as well. My hope is that Google steps their game up and brings out a very similar product: really good camera, high rez screen, radio that works on all carriers and improvements to voice dictation. Also a big thing I hope they address is the fact that on android like all phones it takes 5 years to get to the camera and usually by then whatever you wanted to take a picture of is gone. Also of course I hope there is some really good battery life on the new android phone and overall polish that doesn't get in the way of customization. I do have to admit though between the camera and the extras voice dictation has over android's, it made me consider an iPhone even though there are several things I don't like about iOS. I have been on a palm pre for a while and love it, but I desperately need a new phone and after the Nexus Prime announcement it will be the perfect time. :( poor WebOS

No. I'll take the 4S. If they called it iPhone 5 people would love it. The iPhone 4 is the best phone today and the 4S is considerably better. Maybe it won't be the best phone in 6 months hardware wise but that is not what makes it the best. 4G networks aren't there yet. Working in Manhattan still doesn't get my Verizon friend 4G service let alone Cleveland or Denver. The Macbook Air doesn't have the best specs of a laptop but it is better than any Powerbook/Macbook I've had. Can't wait to pre-order my 4S from Sprint. Anyone want to buy an unlocked T-Mobile iPhone 3GS?

It really depends. Will the Nexus Prime be a rehashed Galaxy S II as the Nexus S was a rehashed Galaxy S? I doubt it, but if that's the case Google's party will be just as flat as Apple's.

I was very surprised that Apple kept the small 3.5" screen. After using a 4" screen, I would not want to go back to that small screen. i am about to purchase the HTC Titan, that is a 4.7" display! It was just another cell phone launch with features that Android users have enjoyed for a long time now.

More interested in the new Nexus than ever. The lack of an iPhone 5 makes my holiday wallet wonder.

It now looks largely like Siri vs. 720p display. Not anymore a battle of 2 revamped hardwares.

I already have an iPad 2 so I'll get to taste iOS 5 either way. This device may also be blessed with Siri at some point.

As an iPhone owner since the beginning I found the iPhone 4S announcement hugely disappointing. The iPhone 4 form factor is simply uncomfortable to hold, and the screen is far too small by modern standards. It's also something of a brick...

So yes, I will be watching the Nexus Prime announcement with interest, although as a gamer I'm not sure I could give up all my iPhone games for the rather limited Android game library.

At this point, the Nexus Prime can't do no wrong. Not to say that the iPhone 4S isn't nice, just that the announcement for it wasn't as awesome as I was expecting spec or feature wise.

I'm not too excited to see an even bigger screen that what is the norm now for Android device currently (at some point bigger becomes too big), but I'm always curious in the Nexus line as they are like the concept car models that show you what could be. Except unlike car concepts, I can actually expect to see these features in phones to come.

I will be getting one of these ASAP. I have been looking at phones to get rid of my Hero with, and I was about to grab a Nexus S on Wind Mobile, but instead I think I'll wait a little while and grab a T-Mobile version of the Prime and put that on Wind. Drop my Telus contract that's gouging me $80/m for little to no service around my house.

Hey Peter. Hope all is well.
Re: your question, there's a distinction to be made as I wasn't really all that impressed with the iPhone 4S as much as I was about IOS 5. A design change is typically more interesting for me as for many others, but it's probably better for the environment that this announcement was just internal changes and no significant "reinvention of the wheel" so to speak. You can all keep your cases.. or just not upgrade ;) Regarding Nexus Prime, I had no idea of the planning of this. Thanks for always keeping us up to date ;)

At this point and probably for the next couple of generations...hardware improvements are going to be incremental. Its the operating systems (iOS and Android) that need to take some leaps forward. It's time for developers to start taking advantage of the hardware and also spend more time looking at how the devices are being used and how to optimize the experience.

I kinda feel the 4S is a bit of a let down considering the lengthy gap between the 4. I'm erring on getting it as the contract on my ageing 3GS is nearly up, but from a tech industry observer's perspective I'm definitely more interested to see what Google does with the Nexus Prime.

4S is a surely a bit of damp squib? Same phone as before, with a faster processor and a voice input program (sounds very cool but utterly impractical for most phone use).

Nexus Prime could be far more exciting - presumably the same amount of processing power, but with a much better screen (the only really differentiator in terms of hardware experience), useful basics like micro USB and an open app store, and some geeky extras like NFC. That's before we even get to ice cream sandwich!
