Question about
Anyone else constantly checking the Mac App Store for updates to their favorite software?
I know we've talked about the Mac App Store (and whether or not you buy apps there) a number of times on gdgt. So, if you do buy apps -- do you find yourself constantly mashing on the "updates" button in the Mac App Store to see if your favorite software has an update?
It's not even that I'm encountering non-functional software -- I just want to be running the latest and greatest. It's especially bad since Lion just came out and I want to see if anything I use takes advantage of the new APIs (versions and resuming).

I don't have a Mac, but I've always done this for Android since the day I first got my G1 on December of '08. Back then I would check the app store every day to see every single new app that was released. When that became unfeasible, I just started constantly checking for updates to my current apps.
It's a very strange compulsion, isn't it? Sometimes I even find myself doing it in Windows with Windows Update. I also have an application for Windows called "Ninite Updater" that monitors my applications.

I rarely check for updates, just checked now and there are 4. This is one of my bigger issues with App Store. I run Nightly Firefox, Chrome, and 1password. All of these programs either have automatic updates or update notifications. I don't know what in the App Store approval process prevents developers from adding these notifications, but I see it has a hindrance rather than benefit. If there is a security update to one of my applications, how long until I know its there? I almost need to add the applications I own to an App Store RSS feed.

I only have a few apps bought from the Mac App Store and I don't use them very often... Apple really needs to figure out a way to "import" previous purchases of iLife and iWork (from a disc) to your Mac App Store account.
