I don't mean hooking it up to a telescope persay, but going out into some remote area and taking a wide angle photo of the sky. I've seen some pretty phenomenal photos that people have done and I've always envied their ability to do this.
What sort of lens and body combination is necessary for something like this:

I'd assume some wide angle, f/2.8 lens so you can let a lot of light in in less than ~30 seconds (otherwise you get star motion trails). Granted, the above image was a composite of 30+ images, but still!
