Any way to revive a water damaged keyboard?

I've managed to kill 2 of the newer ('flat') Apple keyboards, now, just by gently trying to clean them with a moist towel to get rid of some of the dirt. First the wider, wired one, now this wireless model. After the first time, I was very careful to not use too much fluid, but something must have still seeped inside it, because some of the keys stopped working (the whole lower row from around z to n) and even after two weeks of waiting, it didn't magically (no pun intended) fix itself. I didn't use water, I actually used hand sanitizing lotion. Maybe that compounded the issue?

So my question: Has anyone ever had success in reviving this type of keyboard after water damage? Given how hermetically sealed it is, it looks like I'm out of luck. The Apple store offered to replace it, until they found out it was out of warranty.

Naturally, I'm paranoid about anything that involved cleaning my actual laptop keyboard with anything other than a dry cloth of q-tip now.

I have always had luck with sticking by gadgets in a bowl of rice to remove water. You may have to buy a pretty large amount of rice for the keyboard, but it always seems to work for me.
