It's not like an iPhone -- it does not "sync" with particular software (that's a 90's paradigm for mobile devices, like Palm used to do in the dark ages). It is a mass storage device, so Mac, Windows and Linux can see the drive and use it just fine.

Its Android, the Calander and contacts automatically sync with Google Servers. If you create a gmail account and populate it with contacts and dates in the calander, when you sign into the evo with that gmail account all the stuff you entered will appear on the phone within minutes.

Yeah, you don't "find a cloud service." You use Google's services. Google Calendar and Google Contacts and Gmail. You can also set up other regular email addresses (POP, IMAP, Exchange) but it's easiest to just stick with Google's stuff, especially for Calendar and contacts.

In my opinion all of that is a plus because it will work on any computer and all you need is a browser. If you really want to, you could create a shortcut icon that takes you directly to your calendar and contacts to put on your dock but I find that it isn't to much trouble to just bookmark the sites within the browser.

All you should do to prepare is export your contacts and calendar, go to your Gmail account (or make one) and then import the calendar and contacts. That way you're all set when you get the phone. Sign in and your stuff is there.
