Amazon Instant Streaming

Does Amazon Instant Streaming work on this TiVo? I know I can buy or rent video but that downloads to the TiVo making me unsure of streaming.

Amazon Instant Video isn't currently available on ANY Tivo device, Series 3, HD, Premiere or otherwise. If you want to confirm this just go to:

www.amazon.com/gp/video/ontv/ontv/ref=sv_mov_aiv_2

and scroll down to the STB category. Click to the right and go through all the devices that are compatible. Its mostly just Roku models.

When Amazon Instant Video was announced, Tivo was listed but there was an asterisk next to their name that mentioned that Instant Video wasn't available on Tivo at that time, only Amazon On Demand content.

I own a Tivo HD and bought a Roku primarily to watch Amazon Instant Video with, since they offer all of the Sesame Street episodes so my daughter can watch them.

If you go to:

www.facebook.com/anthony.dehart/posts/101500900426...

you'll see that back on February 22nd Tivo said:

"TiVo is working with Amazon on this. No details regarding timing are available now, but we do plan to have this available in the future."

However, its now almost October and it isn't out yet, so not clear if/when it will be.

No, it does not support streaming on the TiVo Series 3. It is one of the ways they are differentiating between the older HD models like the S3 and the Premiere units. They are also supporting Hulu+ on the Premiere but not the S3. It's a bummer because for the price these are not features that make the TiVo Premiere compelling enough to upgrade from the S3, but would be nice to have.

They could probably figure out a way to support these, since Netflix and YouTube stream just fine to the S3. But probably they won't, because the Premiere isn't selling well and it is one of the few levers TiVo has to get you to upgrade.

Sorry!

CORRECTION: See Fanfoot's response on this thread. I was not aware that the TiVo Premiere did not stream Amazon content. My bad!

Thanks guys. This means I'm sticking to my Mac OS, iPad, Apple TV ecosystem. All I need is more apps on the Apple TV... but that's a different question. ;-)
