Question about
AirPort Extreme Base Station or Express Base Station?
which do you recommend for hardwiring a 360 and wireless to macbook pro?
top answers
aherrera's pick
I have both and I use the Express to extend range of the wireless network.
Bast on your brief info provided, here's what I think:
Yes to Express if:
1. You want to save a little $$$ over the Extreme;
2. Don't ever intend to connect more than 1 device to wired ethernet;
3. Don't need broader wifi coverage provided by A Extreme;
4. Don't care about simultanious dual band wifi (you can have 2.4 or 5GHz, not both).
Yes to Extreme if:
1. You want to connect more than 1 device with wired ethernet;
2. Need broader wifi coverage area;
3. Might want to add an external usb HDD for NAS functionality (works great);
Other thoughts:
If you travel a lot the Airport Express is a great travel router for hotels, homes with only a wired internet connection, etc.
Airport Express offeres AirTunes-it's part of my home audio setup and I couldn't live without it.
Airport Extreme, the ability to connect any USB HDD as a networked hard drive is really a useful feature for my household.
Last thought, both devices are in the apple.com refurb store regularly. You can save some bucks. I bought both my Airport devices refurb and would do it again.
