I had this happen to me on 8.10 and 9.04, I don't remember how I fixed it. Try uninstalling all of your plug-ins / downloading the gstreamer codec plug-ins and use those.

That happened to me in Movie Player. The hue was at 0. I set it back to 50% in the display preferences.
