If I wanted to get a surround sound receiver that is better than good enough, while only overdoing it a little bit, I’d get the Pioneer VSX-1021-k.

Really awesome receiver. It has Apple Airplay, an iPhone app to control inputs and volume as well as calibration tools. Tons of input settings and upscales all your video inputs to 1080p.
