Detailed review
Up sides:

The retro styling.
Excellent JPG images as well as RAW mode.
Battery life good.

Down sides:

The included RAW software is slow, buggy and not ergonomic.
Would be nice to have more range on the lens, although the 24mm equivalent in great to have.
The retro styling mentioned above means it needs a large pocket to fit in to.
Having a separate lens cap.

I've been extremely happy with the LX3 as a more "carry everywhere" alternative to an SLR. In good light it's images are near SLR quality, it switches on more quickly than most compacts and feels like it will outlast its owner. Having Program, Aperture priority, Shutter Priority and Manual modes means that budding photographers can experiment.

The SilyPix software is clunky but can produce good results with perseverance.
