Detailed review
Being in an area of the country that currently is not covered by AT&T nor T-Mobile, the Palm Pre's only real competition are Windows Mobile devices and Blackberries. Compared to the devices that are available in my area there is no competition the Palm Pre wins hands down.
Pros:
• WebOS is beautiful and very intuitive
• It has a physical keyboard (and surprisingly easy to get used to)
• Frequently updated
• Takes very good pictures
• Syncing with email and calendar couldn't have been easier.
• Multi-Tasking
• Sprint phone plans are the cheapest available.
• Document View support
• The phone has a very good feel in the hand
Cons:
• Only available on Sprint right now.
• Keyboard is small
• Battery life could be better
• Only 30 Apps in the App Store
• Only 8GB of non-expandable storage
• Hardware could be a little better
Although I am currently unable to get an Android based phone or iPhone in my area I have had the pleasure of giving them a good run through. The G1 just doesn't have the polish, in software and hardware, that Palm has pulled off in this first offering. The iPhone is a tried, true, elegant, and heavy developer supported. In the end I would actually find it a difficult choice between the iPhone and the Pre.
Lastly, after using the Pre for a couple weeks, I really think a lot of the professional reviews have one thing incorrect. Instead of pitting the Pre against the iPhone, or even the Blackberry, the Pre has found it's own sweet spot between the two. Comfortably placing one foot in business and the other in the consumer world.
