Earlier this week Apple announced the arrival of their new OSX build called Mountain Lion. One of their heralded new features was the introduction of iMessage to the desktop platform with the idea being simple: 1 conversation continued across any of Apple's hardware be it iPod touch, iPad, or iPhone, with iMessage you will never stop the conversation. I myself downloaded the beta of iMessage and tested this out first hand, I had my iPad, iPhone, and MacBook Pro in front of me as I carried on in...

A few months ago Peter presented several scenarios regarding the future of WebOS. Among them was killing the platform, which I strongly believed would happen, though I wasn't expecting it this soon: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/hp-punts-on-webos-di... What are your thoughts on these news?
The first reviews of HP's TouchPad tablet are in and if I were Jon Rubenstein I'd be worried. The TouchPad was one the most anticipated devices of the year, but there was a palpable sense of disappointment in most of the reviews I read. Several noted a number of issues with the device, including relatively poor battery life, surprisingly buggy software, a relatively paltry selection of apps, and, to top it all off, that it's actually heavier and bulkier than just about every other rival device....

I'm one of those early adopters of the original Pre on Sprint. I put up with the crappy hardware (all three replacements of them), the slow laggy software, the lack of updates, the lack of apps, the reneging of getting webOS 2.0 and finally the promise that we'll get something special in return for our "loyalty". Well, today Palm (HP) announced that we can qualify for a $50 mail-in-rebate for just the $599 32GB TouchPad (not the $499 16GB version). I know people will say that this is better than...

For a long time, they've been promising Pre and Pixi owners that the webOS 2.0 upgrade would be available for their devices "in the coming months." This was the vague message repeated at their developer events, in interviews, and through their social media channels — much to the chagrin of their customers, who were holding out for the update with decreasing patience. http://www.precentral.net/webos-2-0-will-be-releas...

Now, the other day, I dropped it and in the process got it a little bit wet (it wasn't submerged in water or anything, but a tiny bit of water got behind the back plate). I opened it up and took the battery out and set it out to dry overnight. The next day I was able to get it to turn on, but it wasn't making or receiving calls/texts or connecting to the internet. Then I let it power down and plugged it in to recharge, but it won't take the charge. The battery icon comes up on the...
Originally appeared in the gdgt newsletter: http://gdgt.com/newsletter/ The recent news about about HP finally launching their Slate 500 tablet got me thinking about the tablet we're all really waiting for them to introduce -- the PalmPad -- and why HP bought Palm in the first place. To me HP’s decision to buy Palm says a lot about where they think the future of the PC business is going and that after years of screwing around they are finally ready to get serious about mobile. HP knows...

I have been able to add the tethering ability without those pesky charges from my carrier and use it quite frequently. The phone is stable and just works, albeit slowly. I agree with almost everyone here that an update to the hardware is badly needed. The OS updates excite me a bit, but it's hard to get really excited when you don't have any real problems now. With this OS, the options for improvements from the individual user perspective are endless while still keeping the core...

things i'm so so on: battery life, not good! the 8gb max space. i love the cards, multitasking, overall UI is great. the phone feels great in my hands too (i have smaller hands). i really don't understand how this phone/OS didn't do better? was it really just marketing? gaming on here is great, browsing is just fine. i've never been a huge app guy on phones. i use basic stuff: facebook, twitter, evernote, some games. all i can get on webOS. i also overclocked to 720 (220 when...
I don't think it's a defective battery, as I was using it the day before and didn't see any apparent degradation. Palm's devices have had serious issues with standby power discharge in the past, but I'm really not so sure I understand why this kind of thing is still a problem for them. Any other Pre / Pre Plus battery discharge tales?
So I guess I should post a one year review before I say sayonara for the EVO. I was a launch day buyer and am currently on my fourth phone. First one fell to the "oreo" effect and two since then have had shut down issues when closing the slider. Unfortunate to say the least in that I think the operating system has a great polish to it. The hardware does the OS no justice. Pre 800mhZ kernel the phone was sluggish and basically a bear to use, post 800mhZ kernel I felt the phone was...

The scrolling of the list is way slow too. I wish that after you either delete an email or file it that the email client didn't pop you back in the list view. It would be infinitely faster if it would just load the next email. I hate the recent firmware update where applications start in the minimized view. It kinda floats in the air for 5 seconds before it goes full screen. Whats up with that? Who's bright idea is that? Uggh.
However, the original version (not Pre Plus) has insufficient memory, causing phone to freeze when attempting to run multiple applications. Much worse, early models of the phone were fraught with hardware problems. Using earphone plug caused phone speaker AND plug to stop working, meaning that the user could not hear any phone conversations or play any sounds/music from the phone. Later experienced problems with the phone freezing, and couldn't be re-booted by any means. Sprint store...
