Conclusion: We like it

This waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, and freezeproof camera can go just about anywhere, and it can take good stills and decent 1080p video while it's there. Like many cameras in its class, image quality suffers in low light, but it can still shoot adequate photos in less-than-perfect lighting conditions. While it lacks the GPS found in some competing models, it beats most of them for image quality and durability, so you may just need to remember where you took those pictures.

The very rugged Olympus Tough TG-820 is fast and capable of producing sharp images, but lacks the GPS functionality that is found in competing models.

Need a tough camera built like a tank, while withstanding the weight of one rolling over it? The TG-820 from Olympus will go almost anywhere you can imagine, and survive the journey.

The Olympus Tough TG-820 is one of the better ruggedised compact digital cameras on the market. Partly because it’s built like Chuck Norris, but also due to the fact that it’s relatively easy to use and delivers pretty good results.

The Olympus TG-820 brings a very welcome update to the electronics in last year's TG-810. The new components do a much better job in low light and, above all, make the camera a whole lot more responsive. All Olympus needs to do now is update that ageing lens.

In fair weather conditions the image quality really is top-notch, while the dazzling three-inch LCD screen around the back helps to frame everything nicely. There are more sophisticated performers on the market, including Olympus's very own TG-1 iHS, but none offer the same value that you get for...

The camera is also very stylish and has a large, clear screen. The new iHS technologies have improved the image quality. The Full HD video function and the Multi-Movie image stabilization are welcome additions. The Olympus Tough TG-820 is an ideal camera for (water)sport enthusiast...

As an Olympus lover, I was quite disappointed in this camera. I ended up selling it less than a month after buying it and getting a Panasonic DSC-TS3 instead. Overall the Olympus delivers on the basic promise of ruggedness and photo quality, but misses on ease of use both with the physical...
