Olympus' latest Micro-Four Thirds camera has great image quality, including very good low-light performance. Gizmodo calls the E-PL5's autofocus "lightning fast," and says that "this is the best image quality, low light performance, and focusing to be found on a micro 4/3 camera." However, Gizmodo points out that "video mode is an afterthought. The quality isn't great, and you can't adjust settings other than general exposure compensation." Pocket Lint also likes the E-PL5's image quality, though it dings the camera for its lack of a built-in flash, and says its continuous autofocus "still isn't up to scratch." Nevertheless, the site calls it "a fine example of how a compact system camera should be."

For beginning shooters or experienced DSLR users interested in a street-style camera on a budget, Olympus micro 4/3 offerings like the new E-PL5 are an excellent choice. This particular model was just a bit too small and had a few weird quirks for my liking, but overall it’s an excellent update.
