Conclusion: We like it

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 is the best Micro Four Thirds camera to-date, combining hiqh-quality optics; useful features like a tilting, 3-inch touchscreen OLED display; and a distinctive, retro look. The camera is durable, is weather-sealed against the elements, and focuses quickly and accurately. While some other interchangeable-lens compact cameras, such as the gdgt-recommended Sony α NEX-5N, have larger sensors — which usually means they can shoot better images with less light — the OM-D E-M5 has very good low-light performance, and is worth considering if you're making the move to an ILC or already have a collection of Micro Four Thirds lenses.

Simply put, we love the E-M5. It's a solid shooter -- literally, thanks to its "splash-proof body" -- with excellent image quality throughout the ISO range and a slick, versatile lens. That 5-axis stabilization is innovative as well, as is the incredibly fast focusing system.

The most capable Micro Four Thirds cameras we've reviewed and arguably the most likeable mirrorless model yet. It falls down a little bit on its continuous focusing but we have no absolutely no complaints about the image quality. It's small, attractive and a pleasure to use.

Olympus has delivered a fantastic camera, which, along with its premium CSC cohorts, has the potential to be a game-changer, stealing focus from certain areas of the DSLR market. There's a lot to love about the OM-D, especially the great image quality and its retro appeal.
