As far as its core functions go, the MiFi Liberate delivers on its promise. It really is a solid mobile hotspot with decent LTE speeds and excellent battery life... if you want a hotspot that's also a touchscreen device with extra fancy features, you're better off using your smartphone instead.

If you're an AT&T customer with regular access to the carrier's fast 4G data network -- and you can afford a data plan to make it worth your while -- the Novatel Liberate is a great way to set up your own on-the-go WiFi network. Ars Technica calls the touchscreen hotspot "an absolutely solid device" and says that it's capable of "amazingly fast LTE speeds." PC Mag says the Liberate has the best battery life they've ever seen on a hotspot, and that it "takes mobile hotspots to the next level."

As with other mobile hotspots, the biggest hangup is price—this one runs $50 to start, with a two-year contract, and you'll have to tack the requisite data plan onto your existing wireless burden.
