Battle of the AndroidPads and ChromePads
details
With the HP Slate looking like a dud (netbook sans keyboard), it seems the most usable tablet not called iPad will be one of this crop: - Dell Streak 7 & 10 inch versions - Notion Ink Adam - WePad - Unnamed MSI Tegra 2 powered tablet Votes on which of those will actually turn out to be the most useful device? The WePad looks like it's heading the way of the HP Slate after their Windows-7-video-playing-demo. And, in my opinion, the interface looks like crap. The Notion Ink Adam has the most... Read more →

Giving credit where credit is due for this new form factor...
details
To Mike Arrington. Everybody's giving credit to Apple, but there's no real evidence that they were working on the iPad until they made the announcement in January. Sure, Apple is the second to get a tablet out, but why shouldn't they have been first; all they had to do was port iPhone OS. Their real tablet OS, 4.0, won't come out until fall. Everyone else had to start from scratch.

With the release of the iPad I am growing impatient for some news on the Adam. Notion Ink continues to release "High Resolution Photos" of the device.
details
The disconcerting fact is that these photos are clearly still just renders. With real tablets already in consumer's hands I feel that it should be a pressing issue for Notion Ink to release some news, whether good or bad. If there are delays expected due to stability problems with the Tegra platform, as some rumors have stated, it would be best to address these issues directly and quell the rumor mill before more damaging ones surface. Obviously since I am posting on it I am still extremely... Read more →

"Up Close and Personal With the Pixel Qi Display" - a concise explanation
details
http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/01/the-pixel-q... Wired provides a concise explanation of 3Qi technology with impressions and photographs for those wondering what the advantages, mechanism, and drawbacks are. My analysis follows: 3Qi in transmissive mode does not have the viewing angles or vibrancy of the iPad's gorgeous IPS display, but in exchange you get the best transflective experience on the market, significantly longer battery life, and a fully functional e-paper mode... Android Market compliance
details
One of the critical failures of non-phone Android devices is the inability to legally use Google applications, namely the Android Market with over 12,000 applications, Gmail, Google Navigation, etc. Archos, for example, claims they were denied the Market for a lack of a camera and compass. The addition of a camera (compared to earlier mockups) bodes well for the Adam, but will they get the OK to get Google's closed source applications? It would be in Google's benefit to have their apps... Read more →

Will someone hurry up and get some hands on with this thing at CES.
details
This is the only device that has peeked my interest this much. I've been following Pixel Qi's technology since they split off from the OLPC project and have been dying for a tablet device with one of these screens. This is probably to only device I'm willing to take the early adopter risk on even though it's from a no name startup. The fact that it has a tegra chipset (hopefully Tegra 2) and runs android is just Icing on the cake. So someone that knows anyone at CES needs to poke... Read more →
