WSJ reports that Apple is working on a smaller version of the iPhone, code-named N97, that will be half the size of the iPhone 4 and cost about half as much (at…

least to the carriers). http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100014240527487046... Anyone else snicker when they saw that the phone's code-name is N97? The first thing I thought of was Nokia's disastrous N97, which also came in a mini version.

very poor quality of device and service Nokia n97
details
I bought this device (Nokia N97) this summer and used it only for couple of months - the main switch unlocking the phone has been broken and i took the phone to a local authorised Nokia service provider where it stays for the moment due to lack of spare parts (almost a month ) . Being the happy owner of several Nokia phones I have to admit that the so called leader of the cellular market is delivering to the market raw products, not providing enough spare parts and can not organize efficient... Will Nokia offer Symbian^2?
details
I've read that the N97 hardware is Symbian^2 capable, but frankly Nokia has a crap history of never releasing a full OS upgrade for a handset (updates, yes, but nothing like 3rd Edition to 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1) and breaking app compatibility when these new releases occur. However, if they've learned their lesson about needing to create platforms with their individual devices, and not simply selling units, then this would be the way to do it. And it would certainly show users why... Read more →

clicky screen defect?
details
yesterday my n97 screen started to make a clicking noise when i press on it near the center. It feels and sounds as if the layers of the resistive screen are slightly sticking to each other when I press down, and then are unsticking themselves causing a bit of click noise when i release. very annoying and kind of disturbing, as it makes me worry that the screen could be wearing out. has anybody else experienced this same problem?

Party like it's... 2001?
details
I've been using it for a few weeks, and I love it! Especially after the 11.2.x update, it behaves much better. Great specs, FM transmitter (that I've only had moderate success with), good camera, mass storage compliance, video conferencing (that I haven't used just yet..)... I love it. It's fun to use! Widgets! But... I 1997-love it. The interface feels super retro. It's basically everything we imagined a phone in the year 2001 would be back in 1990. Every time I use it, I...

Review: monorecords.com
details
Not sure how I feel about sites needed to be "authorized" to be added to the reviews database, but this one is incredibly well-written: Nokia N97 - There is more to come http://www.monorecords.com/conceptology/?p=282 "...I believe we haven’t heard the last of the N97 yet. It’s not the “perfect” device Nokia would’ve needed, and still needs, to show the world, and it sucks that Nokia had to let down those who were waiting for a real killer right out the box. But it has... Read more →

Dumb question: The bezel
details
Metal or plastic? Engadget says metal, BGR says plastic. No official mention on Nokia sites as far as I've seen. I only wonder because it feels really light and sounds like plastic when tapping it, but in our highly refrigerated offices it's always amazingly colder than the chrome plastic edging on my office Blackberry when picking it up.

Already bricked. Then fixed. Had it les than a week!
details
I have an N97 on Three Mobile (UK). Ive already bricked the thing but with thanks to the Internet, build 7100 of windows 7 and some other clever people I managed to sort it, thank Gods! Just a word of warning really, if your on Three (or Vodaphone) and have a handset that's product code doesn't update to 11.0.021 then the firmware I fixed mine with is: 0587245 Obviously I cant vouch that it wont brick your RM-505 handset but if your unlucky like me it might help you out. Just spreading...

Nokia Doomed?
details
I was just thinking that while the N97 has great specs is it a good phone. I read Giz's review and they didn't think much of it. Do you think Nokia is doomed or will go strong into the future. I personally think that if they continue at this rate with out changing then its the end of Nokia maybe not today or tomorrow but they will die, I am basically mirroring Giz's opinion. I hope Nokia will pull a Palm and reboot there OS it made sense that Palm would go first they were in the most... Read more →

nice netflix homescreen widget
details
i was playing around with the homescreen widgets on my n97 and noticed that you can put netflix on there. once you login, it will continuously feed recommended movies you your homescreen. if you tap on the widget, it bring you to to movie info, and you can choose to add DVD or add instant. pretty nice idea. now if only they didn't use such an offensive bright red for the widget....
