Detailed review
I totally admit I like gadgets and like playing with them. I also liked Nokia’s phones and felt they made a good solid device and I have to say the Lumia 900 is definitely a solid feeling and a good looking device.
Over all I really like the phone, the camera is good and takes good pictures. The screen is dark and bright when it needs to be and crisp. It has a solid feel to it and it doesn’t feel cheap at all even though its plastic.
Call quality has been good and with the larger display and texting has been easy to get used to. Battery life has been good and I have gotten full day of normal usage. I plug it in at night to charge like I do with any phone.
Hardware wise I think its pretty good especially at the $99 price point. Now I admit I am giving a lot since the price is so low. Even unlocked at $400 I would still give it a good review and say not that bad. Now its single core and not dual the resolution could be higher on the display but again for price its damn good.
Now my biggest complaints are the software. The Metro UI is pretty good and easy to get used to. It’s not as intuitive as iOS but a lot easier out of the box then android. Its definitely not as polished as either of the other two nor does it have the applications the others have. It also has a lot of “crap” apps that the other two seem to have done a better job at curating either by not allowing them or just by better categorizing them.
Would I recommend this phone to a friend or family yes and that has a lot to do with the price and hardware being pretty good. But for any one that’s techie I would say wait for a better spec’ed phone and the release of the next version of the software. When they release Windows 8 I expect to see some upgrades to the phone space as well. Moving to Win 8 on the phone at the same time as the PC seems to be the kind of marketing thing Windows would do.
