The Nintendo DSi XL is a solid handheld; without a doubt, one of the most solid Nintendo's ever offered. But at $190, we're not sure exactly who the system is for. If you've already got a DSi (or even a Lite) it's not a worthwhile upgrade; for every point in its favor, there's a trade-off.

The DSi XL outshines and outperforms, because when it comes to gaming, bigger may indeed be better. Larger screens and a more comfortable design make for a better handheld experience, whether it’s alone or in a group setting.

Larger, but otherwise very similar to the DSi, the Nintendo DSi XL is a great choice if you're getting your first portable Nintendo device, especially to share among family members. The larger screens alone, though, don't provide enough incentive for Nintendo DSi users to upgrade.

Should you buy a DSi XL? Sure, if you don’t already have a DSi. I’d just suggest that you check one out at your local game shoppe first to be sure that the size won’t be an issue. Is it a reasonable upgrade from the DS or DS Lite? Absolutely.

This isn't a must-go-out-and-buy upgrade, however if you're looking for the experience of the PSP, but wanting to stick with the Nintendo games set, this is a better, bigger, experience that will give you just that.

Without higher resolution panels – or the glasses-free 3D technology tipped for the next generation – the DSi XL doesn’t make a must-have case for itself.
