The Nintendo DS is an excellent portable gaming platform. The clamshell design protects the two high-quality displays and the unit itself is well constructed. Backward compatibility with GBA cartridges is a plus.

At US$150 this is a great value, a really fun system, and proof that there are new things to try with video game hardware. I can only hope that Nintendo's next proper console is as well put together and thought out as the DS.

Read the full review →If you already have a large collection of GB ADV games and a GB ADV SP, don’t upgrade to the DS just yet. Wait till more games become available or until the Sony PSP comes out. For those of you that don’t have a handheld game system at all and just can’t live without the DS, go for it.

Buy a DS lite. The original DS has dimmer screens, and a chunky design that make it look like a prototype system rushed to market. If you do buy an original, you will at least have a great library of games.
