Windows 8 and the Myth of the All-Purpose Device
details
With the release of Windows 8 and its ecosystem of hardware near at hand, I have been thinking about the ancient (in technology years) myth of the all-purpose device. This myth is one every geek knows and dreams of. The idea of having a single device that you carry around that can meet all of the technology needs you have is one that has captured the imagination since the days of the first "portable" computers. For geeks everywhere, though, it is ultimately a dream that leaves us depressed and... Read more →

The future of portable gaming - dedicated handhelds or gaming tablets?
details
With the recent explosion in the popularity of mobile gaming, pundits have been forecasting the end of dedicated gaming consoles like the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS, saying that these are increasingly becoming niche devices and that most people will be doing their gaming on their phones, on tablets, or on the iPod touch, the latter being advertised as a gaming device by Apple.
Then again, what does that say with the announcement of products like the Razer Project Fiona, a Windows 8... Read more →

Radiant Historia a must-have for all DS owners who like JRPGs
details
Wow, I picked up a used copy of Radiant Historia for the DS a few months ago and have been slowly chipping away at it. I am now about 20 hours in and am absolutely hooked. This has easily become my favorite RPG ever. The story and character development are even better than my previous favorites, Final Fantasy IV (aka II), Final Fantasy VI (aka III), Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger, and even Cosmic Fantasy 2 (an old TG16 CD game that had my favorite story up until now).
I have tired over the... Read more →

Okay... so who's "over" their shiny new 3ds? I am... until zelda comes out at least.
details
It seems that the only game that truly impressed me so far was street fighter. others felt rushed or too short. I'm getting impatient because the only reason i reserved the 3ds to begin with was for zelda, resident evil, and metal gear solid 3. Bring on the good games already!!!

Did anyone pick up a Nintendo 3DS? If so, what do you think about it?
details
Now that the Nintendo 3DS is pretty much available to all, I'm sure a lot of people out there already got their hands on it. Initially, I thought it was a bit gimmicky, but after watching some of the demos of the augmented reality games, I was getting the urge to bust out the credit card and pick one up...especially with Walmart offering up to $100 credit if you trade in you old Nintendo DS (http://gdgt.com/discuss/if-you-already-own-ds-liv... What are your first impression?...

Hello, I guess that Nintendo must change its videoconsoles, I don´t like any of this machines...
details
Is portable, have 3D graphics, but its main processor and system memory is very low if you compares it with others portable devices like smartphones, an example could be Sony Ericcson Xperia 10 or the Droid 2 ...and its aspect seems antiqued, though it does not. Always Nintendo with same way of make bussiness...

I was lucky enough to play with the 3DS in London last week, and I was blown away. The games that impressed me most were Zelda, and SSFIV3D.
details
With SSFIV3D, I was playing at a booth, and someone a little next to me played with SSFIV3D in their booth. We connected so seemlessly, we didn't realise, and before we knew it, were were locked in a battle. I was in Dynamic viewpoint (slightly behind the character), and he played in classic mode (side-by-side) and it was just so smooth on both ends. Amazing!

Super Street Fighter IV with online multiplayer... that's all I needed to know.
details
As soon as the online multiplayer feature was announced, the decision was made for me to sell whatever I have to and do however much computer sidework is required to get one of these at launch. This is the ONLY feature that has influenced my purchase decision. I already have a DS Lite and have been getting a lot of use out of it lately reliving classic RPGs. I would have been happy with my DS Lite for years to come at the rate I am going with these games, but... the thought of playing SSFIV on... Read more →

So apparently Nintendo has been saying that kids under six shouldn't use the 3D on the 3DS:
details
http://gamepolitics.com/2011/01/03/why-3ds-might-b... I doubt any parents will bother heeding that message, and considering how many young kids play DS now, I can only foresee a grim future. Hopefully their concerns will prove to be overblown. Though the question becomes, what was Nintendo thinking? They of all people should have a good idea of who their audience was going to be.
