The video function is pretty useless. If it could auto focus and get the lighting right in video mode it would be useful, but as it stands video is a novelty. The still side of things is just great though. So while the the video capability pushed me over the line to buy this model. It's the... Read the full review →
People who want a killer DSLR and sometimes want to shoot movie scenes will appreciate the D90 the most. Its still shots are among the very best available, competing head to head with the outstanding images from any camera with 8+ megapixels. Once your image density is this high, the chances are... With this camera you're gonna get as good or better picture quality than some of the higher models in the line (until you reach full-frame of course). The higher models offer things for pros like weather resistance and more durable dropability but that's it. Movie mode gets a bad rap. Of... Read the full review →

I've had mine for a few years now and I love it, but it has fallen by the wayside as I tend to favor my iPhone 4 for most things these days. Still, when I need low-light performance or focal length variety, the D90 is a winner. Read the full review →

This is a excellent camera. I suggest investing in a better lens than the one that comes with the kit. Battery life is amazing. I wish it had a external mic port. Read the full review →

After years of shooting with my Nikon D80, I had become intimately familiar with the controls, feel, and consistent quality of that well-built camera. I was excited to upgrade to the D90, and it has exceeded my expectations in every area. The menu has been revamped significantly, new menus added,... Read the full review →

I bought this camera as both a replacement for my beloved N90s 35mm film camera and as an upgrade from my Nikon Coolpix 5700. All my old Nikon lenses fit (yay!) but of course, the sensor size means that I have to mentally recalculate the 35mm equivalent when choosing a lens. My only complaint (and... Read the full review →
I have owned this camera for about 6 months now and I'm in love with it! For the price range, I find it very hard to beat. It offers many of the features of the lower-end professional cameras but also has very intuitive automatic features which makes this camera excellent for novice users. The... Read the full review →

This was my first DSLR, I've only owned point and shoot camera's in the past As a first camera, I've found this to be an excellent camera to learn photography with. It was not excessively expensive, yet provided many professional features. I expect to hang onto this body for a while. Read the full review →

The first DSLR with video recording ability. I purchased it because I've already bought into the Nikon system and wanted to upgrade my D40. This is a very capable advanced amateur DSLR with great ergonomics, features, and outstanding image quality. Image noise is very well controlled, with... Read the full review →

I had a very close relationship with my D90. This camera has superb ergonomics and is configurable enough to make it really fit your photography habits. The spec list is showing some age and this price point has some notable contenders (Canon 60D, mostly) that are new to the market. The Nikon,... Read the full review →
I used to be a Canon shooter but made the switch to Nikon after much soul searching and web reviews. Don't get me wrong, the Canon 50d was an awesome camera but, one thing really bothered me. I do a lot of remote flash shooting and Canon was not able to a Second Curtain flash remotely. This... Read the full review →
DPReviews the Nikon D90 saying "..it's hard to think of a better enthusiast-level camera.". It receives the following rating :
Build quality 8.5
Ergonomics & handling 9.0
Features 9.5
Image quality 8.5
Performance (speed) 9.0
Value 8.5
The fact that you can shoot video with this camera may have grabbed the headlines, but we're still on the fence about the practicality of this feature. Setting video aside, though, there's an awful lot to like about this camera, from its fast burst mode to its fine low-light performance for flash-free photos and a Live View mode that's still not perfect, but does prove comfortable and convenient in certain shooting situations. For $1000 plus lens, you're getting a camera you're unlikely to outgrow or tire of, and we'd call that a pretty good deal.
The Nikon D90 is not just a makeover of the D80, the camera it will ultimately supersede: it is a complete revamp and as such provides a range of new and improved features that must make one of the best consumer level DSLRs to arrive on the market to date
I admire Nikon for their work on the D90, which is as powerful as a 40D or 50D, and if I didn't already own many Canon mount lenses I would REALLY consider moving to the D90 for its photo capabilities. Fast, light, well made⦠the D90 a great camera for anyone wishing to jump into the serious DSLR shooting world.
