The Nikon Coolpix S30 is an inexpensive, family-friendly waterproof point-and-shoot that's best used outdoors in good lighting and with slow-moving or stationary subjects. If you need more than that, be prepared to spend more than $120 on a different camera.

The Coolpix S30 takes passable pictures that are on par with what you'd get from a smartphone camera. But it's cheap, rugged, waterproof, has big chunky buttons, and comes in bright colors. In other words, it's the perfect camera to give to the kids to take to camp or on vacation. If they drop it in the lake, it'll probably survive. If it doesn't, you're only out $100.
