Xoom vs iPad for SMB
Let me start off by saying that I am evaluating tablets that will be distributed amongst my organisations executives. The two contenders are the Xoom (which I keep referring to as Zune!) and the iPad. Been using the Xoom for a bit now and here the Xoom's pluses and minuses: +Honeycomb widgets are awesome. Now I can just glance at the home screen when and email comes in without having to dig into the mail app thats a big plus. Side note, the gmail widget works really well, but I've run...

I'm a huge Apple fan, but opted for the Xoom. Why? Simple. It's just plain better. There are several reasons I say this...... specs for one....
but I love that Google has gone the extra step and recognized that tablets need a tablet OS. Honeycomb looks beautiful, but feels very much like the Android we all know. Couple that with the built-in Google services.... it's hard to turn away such a device with so much WINNING! (Thanks Charlie Sheen)

This morning I ran across this article and it made me happy that other people are actually paying attention to the lies that Jobs spews during most of his…
keynotes. http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/03/03/steve-jobs-... While the article gets petty, it's still satisfying to read it in some ways. For me, it's very important that a company be honest, and Apple has just never cut it in that respect. Outright lies during a keynote, similar to the ones Apple told when criticizing Windows during the many OS X keynotes, shouldn't be part of a tech company's vocabulary. Apple has enough good...

On paper, the Xoom and the Playbook are slightly better than the ipad2. In terms of OS, Android, QNX and WebOS are better than iOS in my opinion.
In terms of hardware design and quality iPad2 is the best. However that makes it 2-1 to the competition! If only i could have the iPad body and a mixture of the competition inside!

Why the proprietary charging port on the Xoom??
I spent $100 on microUSB car and home chargers that were 2amp+ in preperation for an Android tablet and an iPad2.

Japan's second largest mobile operator, AU/KDDI announced today that they would be carrying the Motorola Xoom WiFi version starting in April.
No word yet on pricing. Video demo of the Android 3.0 tablet in action from their announcement is here: http://www.kds.kddi.com/movie/1102281006.html

I had this tablet since before it came out.
And in my own opinion its good there's potential for Android, but it feels like Android stole the idea from Maemo5 and made it better. Im not saying its not good, but this is why Nokia failed, if you guys have used an N900 the user interface looks the same for me especially how you show apps and its multitasking feature. In addition to that the ecosystem that Android has for this tablet is getting bigger, in comparison with the N900 which has no good apps or games at all. But the Motorola...

I think in regards to hardware there is definitely an improvement, but it will be the balance of both hardware and software will ultimately decide whether…
Honeycomb becomes successful in the open market. I guess we just have to wait and see whether people will go with third category device after the initial buzz wears off. Because ultimately it boil downs to few key factors such as usability and “whatha the hell do I do with this after I finish reading emails and browsing the web”! But I’m sure they will sell ton of these before the market gets saturated.

I got my hands on a Motorola Xoom. Any questions? Ask them here and I'll do my best to answer them!
Only had it for a couple of days, but so far I'm liking it.

Grrrrrrr my brains in a knot now!
I don't know wether I should get the Xoom which comes soon and is $600 or get the Toshiba tablet which is cheaper has removal battery but comes out later! Can someone suggest which I should get plz?

Reuters just reported the official prices for the Xoom! Verizon subsidized version will be $800 and a wifi-only version for $600.
With the 32gb storage, these match up to the second-tier iPad equivalents, with the 3g version of the Xoom being $70 more. I'm pleasantly surprised that these are on par with Apple, but I think they really dropping the ball by not offering a sub-$500 model. At this point, the Xoom is a better choice from a feature standpoint, but I don't doubt that Apple will come back with a feature-matching iPad 2. Because of that, I'm still not 100% sold on picking up a Xoom. Any predictions on...

How the heck did Apple become the low price tablet company among the major manufacturers?
Everyone else is hitting higher price points, which is the opposite of how things usually go with Apple. Why is this suddenly the opposite of how things have gone with Apple's computers and PMPs? The Archos tablets are looking like busts for now. The best budget alternative to the iPad right to root a loss leader color e-book reader that may never have certain features like cameras and whatnot. If nobody equals or undercuts the iPad's $500 entry price, then Apple will obliterate the...

Xoom 7" version coming, do want that one. Maybe. I haven't seen an iPad in real life so I don't know if 10" is too big.

Apple seems to have no fear of any upcoming tablets based on Tim Cook's comments yesterday.
I can't say I disagree with his comments in regards to Windows but I'm on the fence with the Android comments. On one hand he is correct, the next generation of Android tablets are technically non-existent until there is a price and date but to completely dismiss them is another. Although this was an earnings meeting so you want to say things to get people happy.

Too many tablets?
*** This post originally appeared in the gdgt weekly newsletter. Sign up here: http://gdgt.com/newsletter/ *** Yes, a ridiculous number of tablets were announced at CES last week. We highlighted a bunch of them in last week's email, and even those were just scratching the surface. It can be a bit overwhelming, but I actually think this flood of tablets -- even if many of them are undifferentiated offerings that look like they were rushed out the door for a trade show -- is a good thing....

The Xoom is looking pretty awesome from what we've seen of it so far, but..
i'm afraid weight is going to be in issue. Not for everybody, but for many people including myself. It's just a little bit heavier than an iPad, and that's no good. One of the biggest gripes I hear about the iPad is that it's too heavy, especially for one handed use. I've definitely found that to be the case when using mine, and at this point i'm holding out for something a little smaller because it's just too uncomfortable to hold. The Xoom is only going to be...
