This is a bit old as it came out last week but HTC has said they are looking to make less devices to try and find that special device. Motorola has also said they are planning to do this. This just leaves Samsung as the only other major Android manufacture who goes overboard on Android releases. Overall do you think this is a smart move for not just HTC but handset manufactures in general? If you take Motorola over the past couple months they released the Razr, Razr MAXX and then the Razr...

The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.
This is pretty big news for Google and hopefully one more step closer in providing a more unified UX/UI on Android. As it stands now when manufactures put out their phones they can force apps to use their customized skin. By requiring that they keep Holo intact on the phone this will allow for app developers to choose between the Holo theme or letting the skin take over when users launch their apps.
How do you feel about this and if you're an Android user are you excited for the change?
Will You Be Getting An Upgrade? It seems that most of Google's installed base is stuck on versions of Android more than a year old, and few will get updates on devices more than a year old, even if they are still under contract. "Blogger Michael Degusta revealed in October that 45 percent of Google's installed base of active Android users were stuck using software released in the middle of 2010. That's because handset makers like Samsung, HTC, Motorola and others do not make those updates...

I saw Dave Zatz post this link on Twitter: http://www.multichannel.com/article/476897-NCTA_CableLabs_Want_Set_Tops_To_Suck_Less_Power.php First of all, it is about $#@!%&*&$ time! Second, I thought that this quote was telling: The Energy Star 3.0 specification will yield HD DVRs that consume less than half of the energy of previous-generation models -- some of which draw 40 watts or more -- while they also will provide more processing power and home-networking capabilities. NCTA also noted...

Motorola's keynote is going down right now. What will they be announcing today?

There doesn't seem to be a location for two-way radios, like the Motorola Talkabout products listed here. http://www.motorola.com/Business/US-EN/Business+Product+and+Services/Two-Way+Radios+-+Consumers.
There are two talkabout products currently in the db, but these are clearly phones...
There's no shortage of great industry analysis about the Google / Motorola deal (and for some of the best, check out Peter's piece here: http://gdgt.com/discuss/11-thoughts-on-google-buyi... I wanted to throw my two cents in on what we, as consumers, can likely expect to see. 1. Motorola devices will be the new stock Android experience, or: goodbye MOTOBLUR. Since the Nexus One, Google's done a pretty good job of trying to have at least a few devices on the market with...

1. This is about patents Probably every single article I've read about the deal has mentioned Android's patent problems, and I doubt that Google would have bought Motorola Mobility if it were simply a handset maker; it's that vast trove of patents that drew Google in. In fact, Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha hinted last week that they might begin using their patent portfolio to make claims against other Android licensees, something which in retrospect turns out to have been a negotiating...

In case you hadn't heard the news this morning, it looks like Google will be buying Motorola for $12.5 billion. Reasons why it makes sense: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/googles-125-billion-... Reasons why it might be a disaster: http://www.businessinsider.com/google-motorola-dea... What do you think? Is this good for Google and Android? These computers can't read it either. I was just wondering if this was common, and if you think there is something wrong with the phone itself or a way to test it. I don't want to get a replacement and have that die too. Also, any tips for salvaging the data on the card or at least getting it to format?
I have had a NETGEAR WNR1000 for at least 2 years and decided to buy an Apple Airport Express (Refurb) so I could take advantage of Airplay, Airprint and possibly have a better wireless router because Apple products are expected to perform among the best. I set up Airplay and though it was tricky at first, I got Airprint set up (I have an iPhone, but use a PC). However, now it seems that I am having more issues with my internet connection with my laptop. I played with the settings adjusting the...

The "old" apps usually work full screen and everything from display to speed to smooth scrolling works just beautifully. Streaming video on its wireless works better than on the big computer wired to the network. If the sales are disappointing it's because of availability. I only found one store with it in stock and they only had one. Using the Xoom is so convenient that I'm on my desktop Kubuntu computer less often. I'm typing this standing up with the great SlideIT...

I did root my phone for the WiFi hotspot, and briefly ran CyanogenMod 7 RC2, but am back to stock 2.2. Overall, very happy with the device, though I rarely use the physical keyboard and dislike it when I do. I've handled the Droid 2 physical keyboard and like it much better. Still, it's my second smartphone (after the Palm Centro) and I'm a fan. It does almost everything my iPod Touch does, and if it had a better battery life I'd probably leave the Touch at home more often....

I rooted my phone and I attempted to install the OTA ( I performed the necessary steps to keep my phone rooted), but the update didn't install correctly. However, I'm constantly reminded to install or download the update and it's getting annoying. Does anyone know if you can disable this notification using SQL Lite Editor or by any other means?
P.S. I'd rather not deal with unrooting and rerooting my phone and am trying to avoid it by any means possible.
I want something that can be used for calls, daily listening at work and is versatile enough for running. I don't care so much about being able to run in the rain, but if sweat could be an issue that would be annoying. I am almost 6 feet tall and have a normal size head, hopefully that isn't a deciding factor though.
I just want something that I can pair my laptop, iPhone and possibly PS3 with and not look like I have a monstrosity on my head.
I've been using a Motorola Droid for the past 2 years. It's starting to act wonky, and I have an upgrade. I've been wanting the Samsung Galaxy S II/ Samsung Function all month but there's no US release (press release is expected August 29th). I loved the RAZR and enjoyed the Droid most of the time I've owned it. Should I get the Samsung or wait even longer for a Google-Moto device?
One number that keeps floating around after Google announced their acquisition of Motorola Mobility is 17,000. That's the number of patents that Motorola Mobility has in their portfolio. When the mobile devices division was split off from Motorola earlier this year, how did they divide the patents between the two companies? I would assume that anything that was granted to employees working in the mobile devices division was automatically assigned to Motorola Mobility? I'm not sure how that sort...

If the other Android licensees no longer perceive that they will be treated fairly and openly by Google, will they explore other OS options? Everyone seems to think, yes, and they say Windows Phone 7 next, but what about webOS? I'd have to think HP's licensing terms might be better, with the imperative of growing the user base. Don't Samsung, LG, and most likely HTC, have to think about it - if for no other reason than to improve their bargaining position with Microsoft?
I'm wondering if there's anyone who owns both who could speak to the pros and cons of one tablet over the other. A friend of mine asked, but I'm not really the most knowledgeable person with Android tablets, so I thought I'd turn it over to you guys.
Would like to know which manufacturer is not nerfing cool features and not installing bloatware so that I can browse that manufacturers products and only consider specs. If there is no saint then just opinion on the least obnoxious will be great. No #apple or #WP7.
I am one of Apple's biggest fans, to me they make good products that makes my life a lot easier. My complete eco system at home and work is Apple, thats why I guess it works well. However I want to start pitching Android Application Development, so Ill need an Android device. There are so many options out there, I am not looking for something similar to the iPhone 4, I am looking for the best Android experience. I owned a HTC Desire released by Telstra (Australian Carrier), used it for a week...

Just turning my phone in landscape view doesn't do the trick. Is this a tablet only feature? In case you don't know what I'm talking about, it looks like this: http://yfrog.com/h3txq7j
Something I've been thinking about the past few days: Most of our smart phones these days can last through an average workday on a full charge. Depending on how often you use it, If you know you're going to be away from power all day (say, traveling, at a conference, or something else where you're out and about), how do you prepare your mobile devices for this sort of thing? For my iPhone, I find myself using some of these external battery packs (e.g., the Mophie Juice Packs)....

This may seem a silly question, but I think it's an important question to consider for the designers of these devices. Regardless of what the manufacturer says, I've yet to use a truly agnostic device. As much as I love the amount of info I can see in portrait, landscape seems to be more comfortable for me. Thoughts?
Engadget is reporting[1] that an update is coming downstream tomorrow that adds in the Wildvine DRM, among other things, so does that mean that we can have the possibility of getting Netflix sometime soon? I know that Netflix has been really picky on what devices they're allowing (or at least plan to allow) and require that they support DRM on a hardware level, but do you think having Wildvine will be enough? [1]...
