i actually own one of these - and it still works - but the battery is missing, instead it has what was known as a "battery eliminator" on it. a battery eliminator is essentially a car cord of that era, which was shaped like the battery itself attached to a wired cigarette lighter plug. many phones of that era did not have car cord jacks so this was the accessory of choice. it will still call 911 or a roaming operator over AMPS
