My 79 year old Grandpa just purchased a Motorola Droid.
Hah, so awesome. He's so tech inclined -- he has his own webpage and while he doesn't tweet, he does read my Twitter account all the time. It's pretty cool! Anyway, this is his first smartphone purchase (he used to have some crappy LG flip phone on Verizon before this). Will let you know more about his thoughts on it when I hear about it.

1 unlock screen woes Is there any way of getting the unlock screen back when you have password rules in Exchange, which is apparently the cause of the issue? It is driving me up the wall and I might even consider retiring the phone if I can't get the unlock screen back - it's practically unusable, and my phones need to be locked when not in use.
A mini-ramble on the state of Android, from a Droid viewpoint.
I like the Droid itself as a handset. It's a well-built phone and it has some elements of that old-school feeling of quality that is absent from the iPhone. I like the less gender-neutral lines of the unit. I even don't mind the much-criticised keyboard - it's not (much) worse than most of this ilk and it gets the job done. But I also need to consider it as an Android phone. And looked at from that aspect, my 'Like' rating for the Droid turns into more of a...

So here is the deal: My fiance has had a blackberry curve for the past 2 years and is up for an upgrade. She is staying on Verizon but sick of Blackberry.
I suggested that she get either a Motorola Droid or HTC Incredible. She would love an Iphone (I have one), but who knows if it is actually coming to Verizon anytime soon? From my research the main differences between the Incredible and Droid are the keyboard and camera. I feel that having a physical keyboard would be better for her, but I don't really know anything about HTC products as far as reliability and everyday use. Obviously both of these phones run Android, so software is a push. I...

I love my Droid. It is head and shoulders above any other phone I have ever owned.
After a few months the one thing that sucks about the Droid is call sound quality when using a stereo headset. I have gone from a cheap Rocketfish stereo headset to a ~$130 Bose headset and they all sound the same when plugged into the 3.5mm jack. The strange thing is music sounds amazing. I've been thinking about getting a micro USB headset but there is nothing good or premium in that category. Lesson Learned: Using a headset optimized for an iPhone will eventually mess up the phone. the...

Tip: the Car Dock is useless. I blocks the speaker, the suction cup doesn't... well ...
suck, and the stupid thing is black, meaning it get really hot in sunlight thus causing the phone to get that much hotter. When the phone gets too hot it stops charging. Just overall a piece of junk. The phone is awesome though.

Just wanted to get some input from heavy business users using the android platform. What android device do you prefer?
What apps/functions do you find most helpful in your line of work?....and any other input you would care to divulge :) thx!

I've only had this phone for a few days but I'm already very happy with it.
I had the Blackjack before which was marketed as a smartphone but I've often referred to as my "Not So Smart Phone". Between Windows Mobile and the crackpot way they planned the menus, I often felt like my phone was working against me. Well, now I've got the Droid and it's awesome. It's not perfect (keyboard could use some work) but I think it's the best phone out there for me. It does everything I need and then some. I find myself wishing that I could set up...

The Droid Incredible looks great on paper, but it's unlikely to be a big hit without a major marketing campaign behind it like the one Motorola did for the…
DROID or Apple's 3GS blitz. It'd be pretty sad to see a phone as great as this simply fly under most people's radar

After 3 months with the Droid, I've always like Motorola Phones going back to my bag phone in the early 90's.
This phone does everything I want and then some. the only thing keeping it from 10 out 10 is the lack of voice dialing via bluetooth. love the Droid!

Has anyone else noticed that no real substitute for the DROID has emerged?
Everything else either lacks a keyboard (N1, Incredible, Evo), has a lower screen resolution or lower screen size. Or is there some device out there that I missed?

Thinking about getting the Droid for a super-cheap price of 19.99. What's the catch?
I'd stick with my family plan and already pay 30 a month for data so they can't screw me there.

Android 2.1 for MOTO Droid finally rolling out.
It started out as a rumor but based on some posts by others it looks like its actually happening! http://phandroid.com/2010/03/30/droid-2-1-ota-upda... It still could be an elaborate April fools joke but I hope not. Find out in a few days I guess.

First to Break
I just thought this was funny so I thought I would mention it. I bought the Droid on the day of its release and the very next day it fell out of my pocket into a small stream. Was I the first ever consumer to break this device!?

Engadget App for Android finally released. Awesome but needs some fixes
Things that need work: Currently the app blocks out the notification bar completely! This is a huge usability no-no. No app should completely block out the notification bar. When a text message or email come in, I want to be able to see it and quickly look at what came in using the notification bar. Please change this Engadget. Also when I listen to a podcast, you can't do anything else. So Engadget app is effectively not allowing me to use the multi tasking capabilities of my phone to...
