Canceling a zune pass subscription is an ungodly nightmare.
details
(This is about the zune pass service, which is not listed in gdgt's database.)
A few days ago my brother signed up for a free 2-week trial for the zune pass service. My mom called me in the room asking me to help her cancel it before they billed her. xbox.com instructs you to go to billing.microsoft.com, sign in, click on the service, and click "CANCEL MY SERVICE." we go to said website, and the link says "HOW TO cancel my service." We click the link, and it directs us to the zune site.
Why did... Read more →

RIP Zune?
details
Paul Thurrott, writer of all things Microsoft, posted a brief blurb that Zune is no more according to his sources: "And what about Zune? Although both companies talked up virtually all Windows Phone-based services, Zune was conspicuously missing—both in discussions from both Elop and Ballmer and on a global reach marketing slide that was created by both companies. My sources tell me that the Zune brand is on the way out and that all Zune products and services will be moved into other... Read more →

What's next for Zune?
details
* * * This piece appeared originally in the gdgt newsletter. Sign up at gdgt.com/newsletter/ if you're not already receiving it! * * * I'm guessing not many people have had this on their mind lately, but since the launch of Windows Phone 7 I've been wondering what will happen to Zune, Microsoft's oft-maligned line of portable media players (make your jokes now so we can get them out of the way, ok?). It's easy to dismiss Zune as a punchline, but whatever Microsoft does... Read more →

just read an article that pretty much says zune as a hardware device is finished and wp7 will take over in terms of software. this is/was no mystery.
details
my only complaint with zune is the lack of aftermarket accessories (car hook up options). do you guys think microsoft will do anything to make the phone more universal so they can be used with docking stations/car radios etc?

Has anyone got a friend to jump on the Zune bandwagon (there's plenty of room)?
details
I haven't yet, but I was talking to my boss the other day, he saw my Zune HD, and we starting talking about it. Turns out he has the 8gb Zune and his kid has the brown brick Zune. After showing him my Zune HD, I pretty much sold him on upgrading his kid's Zune 30 to the HD. Felt nice to find another Zune fan out there IRL, but I hope to one day find someone I can convert over.

Podcast feed tip that I wanted to pass along:
details
I probably subscribe to over 20 podcasts in the Zune software. I'd say the Zune software handles podcast pretty well, but one thing that sucks is that if you reinstall the Zune software, say after a reformat of Windows (I do this periodically), you have to put all of them back in one by one. Until Microsoft stores your subscriptions "in the cloud", I hope, I have a really simple method to make this less annoying next time you need to reload podcast feeds into Zune, or any... Read more →

Do you leave the WiFi on? Have you ever "squirted" a song?
details
Well do you? Do you ever think you'll run into some stranger and share some songs? I got my Zune refurbed from woot.com and it never had too great of a battery so I turn off wifi and keep a low screen brightness with a dark backround to maximize battery life. I once saw someone using a Zune on a bus so I turned my wifi on just to see if his was on and it wasn't. A friend of mine has one but he never updates the firmware so we can never share, but with friends its rather pointless.

I love this thing!
details
I never owned one but I've played with it a lot. The finish and doubleshot effect were amazing, and so was the screen and overall design. The matte plastic on this thing is miles ahead of the glossy plastic on later Zunes and even the aluminum on iPods. I was really tempted to get one when it dropped under $100 (and that was 2 years ago) but too bad I can't stand hard drive DAPs. And also despite what everyone else thinks, I love the brown one. If I could get any of the colors I would...

Who loved the pouch included with the Zune 30?
details
I loved the brown pouch for my brown Zune30! I managed to not lose mine for over 2 years. Alas, I finally did lose it. But I kept it on all the time - it was nice because you use all the controls while it was on. So if you wanted to skip tracks or turn up the volume it was no problem. I hope the Zune HD comes with one included even though you wouldn't have the same functionality through the pouch there. But it also doubled as a screen cleaning cloth. After I lost it I tried to find one like...

Zune 30 Owners - AKA The Minority
details
I thought it would be neat to hear from people that owned a Zune 30. Out of everyone I know, I was the only one that had a Zune 30 when everyone had their iPods. I actually loved it while I had it. Radio is really underrated in my opinion. I remember the original Zune software when the marketplace had barely any content... oh those were the times. Now I have an iPhone :).
